Building of London's largest cycle hire station underway

Date: 1/11/2010
Work has now begun on a new docking station for London's cycle hire scheme, which will be its biggest so far. With space for 124 bikes, the stop-off point is being created close to the main entrance of Waterloo station, where there has reportedly been a high demand for bikes.
Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's Transport Adviser, noted the cycle hire project has been particularly popular in this area and the new "super docking station" will be the first of many to be installed around the capital.
The success of the initiative over its first 12 weeks has been "sensational", he continued, adding "but what we need to do now is to make sure it remains a simple and effective scheme for every user".
Transport for London recently launched a new safety campaign urging cyclists and lorry drivers to take extra care on the roads in a bid to reduce the number of accidents between bikes and HGVs in the city.
