Businesses urged to sign up for Road Safety Week

Businesses urged to sign up for Road Safety Week

Date: 27/7/2010

Businesses are being encouraged to help save children's lives by getting involved in Road Safety Week.

A campaign pack has been created by Brake - which is organising the event - and will be distributed among establishments.

The document gives tips and advice on dealing with speeding among drivers who get behind the wheel for work purposes and ideas to persuade employees to slow down.

Chief executive of Brake Mary Williams said half of motorists, including at-work drivers, still travel above the speed limit in towns and villages.

"By getting involved in Road Safety Week you and the people you work with can help these drivers slow down and save lives," she added.

A poster featuring a seven-year-old boy killed by a speeding driver is also included in the campaign literature and it is hoped this will act as a warning to motorists who regularly break the speed limit.

Earlier this month, the team behind Road Safety Week urged fire and rescue services to sign up to the initiative to help publicise the need for drivers to slow down to prevent fatalities and serious injuries on the roads.
