BVRLA to launch recall notice system

Date: 22/9/2011
Fleet operators will be able to make use of an online safety recall notification system from 2012.The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has partnered with technology firm Ebbon-Dacs to create and provide the free tool, which will enable manufacturers to list all of their recall notices in one location.
With members of the BVRLA owning and operating a total of 2.5 million vehicles, the organisation notes that such firms are facing increasing administration costs in managing all of the separate paperwork and digital updates they receive from automakers.
Establishing a simple solution that the whole industry can make use of has been the long-term aim of the Association as a result, Chief Executive of the group John Lewis explained.
Vehicle and Operator Services Agency Chief Executive Alastair Peoples said: "Britain has some of the safest roads in the world and the recall system contributes to this. It's really encouraging to see manufacturers and the fleet industry working together to improve the effectiveness of the safety recall process."
Robert Pilkington, Managing Director at Ebbon-Dacs, added that establishing this standard will assist in injecting more efficiency into the process, while also helping to speed up safety recalls in the future.
In May, the BVRLA responded to the government's Red Tape Challenge by claiming that paperwork could be reduced for the fleet sector if the Road Vehicles Regulations 2002 legislation was amended to allow the electronic issuing of registration documents.
