Calls for improved disabled access at Bridgwater train station

Date: 26/4/2013

A railway users group has called for the introduction of enhanced disabled facilities at Bridgwater station in a bid to increase accessibility.

As the BBC reports, the Friends of Bridgwater Station are looking to secure funding from the Government's Access for All scheme in order to improve the ease with which disabled people can access the platforms.

Currently, there is no simple means for wheelchair users to move between platforms one and two, meaning they are forced to cross a busy main road in order to do so.

And with the local group having contacted the Department for Transport and First Great Western about the issue, a Spokeswoman for the Friends of Bridgwater Station explained that it's vital disabled access is improved in order to support all passengers.

"It is just totally unsatisfactory in this day and age that no thought has been given to how people can access the station," she said.
