Calls for North Wales transport infrastructure to be modernised

The North Wales Regional Leadership Board has enlisted the help of two regional bodies to push for investment in transport infrastructure throughout North Wales, Wrexham.com reports.Councillor Dilwyn Roberts, Chair of the Board, explained that leaders have asked the Taith Regional Transport Consortium and the North Wales Economic Ambition Board to coordinate with the Welsh Government on the potential for modernising the region's rail network.
"There is an urgent need to improve the connectivity of North Wales to the rest of the UK rail network," he said.
"I am particularly keen for North Wales to obtain electrification of the Holyhead to Crewe railway line to facilitate trade between Ireland and the UK."
And Councillor Mike Priestley, Chair of Taith, added that an extensive business case will be put forward as a central part of efforts to stimulate investment in North Wales' rail services.
"North Wales must make the best case possible and seek wide support for it both in and beyond Wales," he commented.
