Caravan owners urged to check tyres

Date: 7/6/2010

Caravan towers are being encouraged to check the tyres on their mobile homes to make sure they are safe.

TyreSafe has now extended its website and it has a special section dedicated to caravan tyre safety, which has a whole host of hints and tips for UK caravan owners.

Chairman of the organisation Stuart Jackson said it is important to make sure tyres on a caravan are in good condition, not overloaded and correctly inflated.

He remarked: "The popularity of camping and caravanning has grown massively in recent years and many of those new to caravanning may not appreciate the high demands placed on their caravan's tyres."

According to the establishment's website, tyres can affect the stability of the vehicle and affect the rate of acceleration and braking.

Last month, West Midlands Police launched Operation Velopy to attempt to reduce the number of caravan-related accidents.

Officers gave motorists advice on the best ways to tow their caravans and avoid the vehicles becoming unstable, which is usually the main cause of accidents involving the mobile homes.
