Cars to get new braking system?

Date: 11/5/2010
Car manufacturers are backing in principle a new idea for an electronic back-up system that could improve the safety of vehicles.Toyota and Mazda are two of the companies that stated they will fit brake override equipment into their vehicles as standard by 2013, What Car reports.
The move follows calls in America to make cars safer after the Toyota recall - which saw some automobiles accelerate unintentionally - and the organisation said this was due to sticking accelerator pedals and misplaced floor mats.
Brakes would always take priority over the accelerator, so this means if the car sped up without the motorist meaning for it to happen all they would need to do is press the brake pedal, according to American lawmakers.
A black box recorder similar to the ones used in planes is also being considered and if plans get the green light it would store information for one minute before a crash and around 15 seconds afterwards.
The Audi A8 will soon have a Bosch automatic braking system installed, which can predict the movement of traffic as well as warning drivers if they are in danger.
