Changes announced to Arbroath and Forfar driving tests

Changes announced to Arbroath and Forfar driving tests

Date: 8/5/2012

Driving tests in Arbroath and Forfar will now run from two local supermarkets.

There were concerns exams would have to cease in the two areas as the leases on the test centres are due to expire this month.

However, the Driving Standards Agency has signed a deal that means they can be run from the Asda supermarkets in the two towns.

If the agreement had not been reached, the nearest centre for candidates would have been Dundee.

Road Safety Minister Mike Penning said he is "delighted" by the news as it means people still receive a local service that is cost effective to run.

"I want us to be more flexible and innovative in delivering driving tests to make sure that we are offering people the best service possible wherever they live," he added.

Last week, candidates were urged to attend their practical tests as normal on May 10th, despite the threat of strike action by some examiners.
