Charging electric cars 'very cost-effective'

Date: 14/10/2011
One of the benefits that may prompt Britons to invest in an electric vehicle (EV) is that they are relatively affordable to refuel.Such is the opinion of Alistair Rhead, EV Manager at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, who notes that charging such a car on an economy seven-based tariff works out at around £1.05, making it "very cost-effective" to use the automobile for short periods of time.
"It might be that someone driving into London every day and [avoiding] the congestion charge and having those benefits will break even [following their investment] a lot sooner," he adds.
Mr Rhead says it is important that people who do use EVs are able to charge their cars and that the necessary points for this are put in the most logical places.
Author of the 2011 Electric Car Guide and Editor of theElectricCarGuide.com Michael Boxwell recently noted that the UK has a "reasonably good" charging infrastructure in place, but that it is underused.
