Children give parents a lesson in parking safety

Date: 9/11/2010
Children in Bradford have dressed up as police officers to educate parents on the importance of parking safely outside schools.Pupils from Green Lane, Farnham and Horton Grange primaries issued fake tickets to any drivers committing offences, for instance by stopping on the yellow zig-zag lines, not wearing a seatbelt or parking on the pavement.
Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: "This is a light-hearted way to engage with the local community and inform parents of the dangers and help them realise that everyone has a part to play in keeping children safe."
Sergeant Andy Barron of the Bradford South Roads Policing Team added the unit hopes to reach pedestrians as well as drivers by working alongside the local authority, noting parents who walk their children to school have a responsibility to abide by the Highway Code.
The Department for Transport recently urged youngsters to be bright and be seen on the roads following the end of British Summer Time.
