Children learn how to cycle safely

Date: 28/5/2010
Pupils at a Suffolk school have been learning how to ride their bikes safely.Representatives from the Road Safety Partnership and Police Constable Will Wright visited children at the academic facility to run a safety course.
Each of the 40 youngsters who took part in the session received a helmet courtesy of Haverhill Town Council along with a cycle light provided by Suffolk Police Authority.
Police Constable Wright remarked: "The comment at the end of the session I had from one young lad was: 'Can you come every day?' and I thought that was a compliment."
Constable Wright added the kids at Haverhill School have all learnt at their own pace and as part of the project each child had to complete two-hour blocks of theory, proficiency testing and skills activities.
Last week, Sustrans Scotland called for improved measures to encourage kids to cycle or walk to school and it wants more cash to be invested in sustainable transport.
