China introduces additional train services to meet new year demand

Date: 4/1/2012

Additional services have been introduced on China's rail network to cope with an influx in passengers as the country celebrates its new year.

Demand is expected to peak on January 23rd and an extra 152 trains have been brought into use, MSN quotes Chinese officials as saying.

Millions of workers leave the country's cities at this time to travel to their native villages and welcome in the new year, which is also known as the Spring Festival.

The celebrations last for ten days before people make the journey back to urban areas.

According to the news provider, more than 2.56 billion individuals travelled in 2011 and it is thought figures for this year will be even higher.

At the end of last month, a report from Construction IQ called the Land Transportations Outlook 2012 suggested there is great opportunity for growth within the Chinese transport sector thanks to developing relationships between regional trade partners.
