China planning nationwide hubs to improve transport links

China planning nationwide hubs to improve transport links

Date: 3/4/2013

The Chinese Government has announced its intention to build 42 fresh transport hubs by the end of 2015, with the new facilities designed to enable easier transfers between different services.

According to reports, authorities in various sectors - including railways and civil aviation - will be required to work together towards streamlining journey times and improving passenger experience.

Plans are said to involve the use of one ticket for numerous modes of travel, and at least one hub is expected to be built in every province, autonomous region and municipality.

As China Daily revealed, further proposals outline the need for stations to be built in downtown areas along high-speed lines and inter-city rail routes, with an aim of improving the link between such services and other forms of transport including buses and subways.

The aim is to ensure the country's infrastructure is able to cope with increasing demand and meet the needs of its population.
