Chinese firm buys 300 trucks to improve long-distance transport

Date: 8/12/2011

One of the largest retail firms in China has added 300 trucks to its fleet.

The Financial Times notes that 360buy wants to improve its current delivery system and solve long-standing logistical issues through the purchase.

In a microblog post written yesterday (December 7th), Chief Executive of the enterprise Liu Qiangdong explained he is frustrated by the current situation.

Although 360buy currently has over 60 logistics partners, it has been unable to meet targets regarding speed, cost, timeliness and service quality.

"I hope this move can solve our problems with long-distance transport," he added.

Mr Qiangdong's aim is to "build a large trucking fleet" that will enable his business to enter the logistics and transportation distribution market.

According to KPMG, the logistics industry in China is growing at a considerable rate, due to an increasing consumer market and an expanding industrial base, and is an area essential to the development of the nation's economy.
