Collapsed cables cause travel chaos in London

Date: 14/2/2013
Thousands of rail commuters in London had their journeys disrupted last night (February 13th) as a result of 25,000 volt overhead cables collapsing onto some of the busiest tracks serving the capital. The incident occurred near Radlett in Hertfordshire, forcing the closure of four lines as engineers battled to rectify the issue.
A total of two kilometres worth of cables fell from 16 steel masts yesterday lunchtime, with disruption expected to continue throughout today. Tickets were being accepted on other routes serving London.
"Our main priority at the moment is getting services running again," said a Network Rail Spokesman. "The damaged cables and other equipment will be taken to our laboratories for specialist examination to find out exactly what happened."
Passengers are being advised to check live travel news before travelling or to seek alternative routes in anticipation of further delays as engineers work to make the lines fully operational as soon as possible.
