Commercial vehicle safety concerns highlighted

Date: 15/4/2010

A number of issues affecting vehicle and driver safety concerns of fleet managers are being addressed through the current Driving for Better Business Campaign.

RoadSafe, which runs the government-backed campaign, used this year's Commercial Vehicle Operator Show to highlight the links between various factors likely to be on fleet managers' minds.

Road risk management, carbon footprint reduction and cost control are all linked, the organisation said, and should therefore be thought of together rather than separately.

In order to raise awareness of best practice in these areas, guides such as the Safe Vans Guide have been produced.

The organisation notes that investing in driver safety can help deliver long-term cost savings from a reduction in road crash rates.

Driving for Better Business campaign director Caroline Scurr added: "A safe driver is likely to be driving in a more environmentally friendly manner thereby also delivering fuel and emissions savings."

The Commercial Vehicle Operator Show took place at Birmingham's NEC this week.
