Consumers 'should be made aware' of vehicle safety technology

Consumers 'should be made aware' of vehicle safety technology

Date: 29/6/2010

Wider adoption of technology designed to improve road safety would help bring about a further reduction in injuries, RoadSafe has argued.

The forum is calling for awareness of electronic stability control - which helps prevent skidding - to be raised, as eSafety Aware research has indicated less than two-fifths of Britons are aware of it.

This is despite the solution being on the market for more than a decade.

RoadSafe suggested many consumers are unable to make educated choices when purchasing cars because they are not familiar with the range of systems available to make them safer.

Director Adrian Walsh commented: "The public must be better informed of other [electronic safety] technologies, so they can demand them when buying a vehicle."

RoadSafe cites building partnerships with government, the media and road safety professionals as one of its primary objectives, along with the promotion of best practice in a bid to reduce deaths and injuries.
