Cost of PCNs 'on the up'

Date: 19/3/2012
There has been an increase in the cost of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued to vans and lorries in London. This is according to research conducted by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), which noted the value of these fines has risen by 30 per cent in two-and-a-half years.
As a result, the organisation welcomed the Mayor of London Boris Johnson's decision not to increase parking fines in the capital to £200 during the Olympics.
The FTA claimed commercial vehicle operators should not be fined more as they attempt to meet a greater demand for goods on the high street during a period when road access is likely to be restricted.
Head of Policy for London at the FTA Natalie Chapman urged delivery firms to do their bit to reduce fines.
"As well as training drivers and identifying PCN 'hotspots', a well-targeted and intelligent approach to appealing unfair PCNs could save some companies hundreds of thousands of pounds a year," she suggested.
The Olympic Games kick off on July 27th.
