Councillor praises school road safety campaign

Date: 29/9/2010
A Staffordshire Councillor has spoken about the importance of keeping children safe on Britain's roads after a new campaign was introduced at one school.County Councillor Geoff Morrison praised the introduction of flashing signs reading '20 is plenty' outside Oldfields Hall Middle School, according to the Uttoxeter Advertiser.
He described the initiative as a "first-class road safety scheme" that reminds motorists "to be extra careful on the approach to schools".
"One young person being injured or even worse, killed, on the county's roads is far too many," Mr Morrison commented.
Head teacher of the school Nick Brown expressed his gratitude to the council for the notices, which he said give an important message to the children as well as drivers.
A recent survey carried out by Brake and Direct Line found 92 per cent of motorists would like to see a 20 mph limit introduced around schools and 60 per cent support the same restriction near homes.
