Councils join forces in bid to improve public transport fleet efficiency

Councils join forces in bid to improve public transport fleet efficiency

Date: 8/2/2013

Wakefield Council managers are set to work with their counterparts at (NELC) North East Lincolnshire Council in a bid to improve the efficiency of vehicle management in the area.

As the Grimsby Telegraph reports, the two sides agreed the deal on Wednesday (February 7th) with the intention of enhancing the coordination of council-owned vehicles in the public sector.

However, the move is simply intended to review management systems so will not involve any direct delivery of services. There will also be no fee for the assistance that Wakefield Council workers are providing.

"Changes to how local authorities are funded mean that we are continually reviewing how services are delivered," said NELC Councillor Peter Wheatley.

"Joining forces with a council which has already gone through this process and which is seen as leading the way in fleet management will enable us to share best practice."

The move forms part of nationwide attempts to facilitate greater coordination between local authorities in a range of areas.
