'Critical' Huttons Ambo rail bridge improvements completed

Date: 15/2/2012
Despite poor weather conditions, Network Rail engineers have completed "critical" work on the Huttons Ambo rail bridge in North Yorkshire.Structural work, including the replacement of waybeams, is taking place at the site to ensure trains can still run safely and on time.
Although some services have been interrupted over the past two weekends due to the complex nature of the project, the next phase has been completed despite the snowfall.
Work is expected to be completely finished by the middle of April 2012.
Network Rail's Area General Manager Warrick Dent said: "We have had scaffolding up since November 2011 as the vast majority of the works are being completed without disrupting trains."
This is not the only improvement work to be undertaken by the organisation of late, as over Christmas it removed the rail bridge over Sandhills Lane in Merseyside and replaced it with a new structure on what is a key commuter route.
