'Cross-party support gathers' for FairFuelUK

Date: 27/1/2011
A campaign to secure a "fairer" deal on fuel is gathering pace, after representatives from the three main political parties have signed up.According to the Freight Transport Association (FTA), MPs from the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour parties have come together with leading bodies in the motoring industry to take the FairFuelUK campaign to the government.
Conservative minister Philip Davies, Liberal Democrat Stephen Lloyd, Nick Smith of Labour and Alan Reid for the Scottish Liberal Democrats were presented with more than 600 letters, all urging parliament to scrap the planned fuel duty rise in April.
The FTA, the Road Haulage Association and TV Motoring Journalist Quentin Willson have all voiced their support for the campaign and were there to pass the correspondence on.
Earlier in the week, the FTA voiced its disappointment that the Freight Facilities Grant is to close.
It revealed that the Department of Transport had informed it the grant will be scrapped with immediate effect in England.
