Crossrail construction project reaches landmark stage

Crossrail construction project reaches landmark stage

Date: 9/5/2013

The ambitious Crossrail project is progressing well and has already progressed half way across London, it has been confirmed.

Phyllis, one of two tunnel-boring machines, is currently inching its way under central London. And once the project is complete, it is certain to transform the transport landscape in the capital.

It will, in fact, serve as many as 37 stations linking Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

Although work on the project started in 2010, it is currently in the midst of the peak construction phase, having reached the city centre.

"Crossrail has already had an impact on property prices around the central stations we have examined, and we expect this outperformance to continue," commented Grainne Gilmore, the Head of UK Residential Research at Knight Frank.

Meanwhile, the likes of FirstGroup and National Express are thought to be among those preparing to express their interest to run Crossrail services when the route becomes operational in 2015.
