Croydon South MP calls for transport investment in the Borough

Date: 17/6/2013
Croydon South MP Richard Ottaway has called on Chancellor George Osborne to protect transport budgets ahead of the spending review which will take place later this month.Mr Ottaway has backed a campaign launched by the London Chamber of Commerce which urges the Chancellor to ensure transport investment does not get cut in the coming years, and argued that Croydon needs substantial financial support in order for its businesses to realise their potential.
"Much of the future growth in Croydon must be driven by investment in transport infrastructure. It would be wrong to put that at risk," he told the Croydon Guardian.
"[It is] absolutely crucial to have excellent transport infrastructure in place to help people get to Croydon - we need to lay the groundwork now to ensure the success of what’s coming in the future."
Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, added that the Borough's businesses will benefit from improved transport links that increase the area's accessibility.
