Cycle film launched to keep bike riders safe in London

Date: 27/7/2010
A cycle film with advice on how to stay safe when travelling on the capital's roads has been launched by Transport for London (TfL).The guide contains tips for cyclists, such as how they need to stay visible and avoid blind spots when riding next to larger vehicles and how they can find their ideal road position.
Managing Director of Surface Transport David Brown said the project - which has been introduced a few days before the Barclays Cycle Hire programme gets underway - will help ensure cyclists remain safe when they are out on their bikes.
"We know that it will take time for the scheme to bed in, however TfL is keen to use every means at its disposal to help people get accustomed to cycling in the city," he added.
Earlier this month, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced the opening of two pilot routes that will be used by cyclists who commute into London by bike.
The two paths run form Barking to Tower Gateway via the A13 and Cable Street and from Merton to the city via the A24 and A3.
