Cycle scheme members urged to 'activate keys'

Date: 29/7/2010

People living in London who have signed up for the Mayor's flagship cycling scheme are being advised to activate their keys.

The initiative launches on Friday (July 30th) and members who have their electronic keys need to activate them before then, otherwise they will not be able to take a cycle from the docking station.

More than 9,000 individuals have signed up to the Cycle Hire Scheme since July 23rd.

Managing Director of Surface Transport David Brown said Barclays Cycle Hire will transform how members of the public travel around the capital.

"Building on the experience of other cities who have launched similar schemes, we and Serco [who are the company responsible for designing and operating the project] will use the first month of operation to learn more about how Londoners engage with the scheme," he added.

Earlier this week, Transport for London released a film featuring advice on how cyclists can stay safe when riding through the streets of London.
