Cyclists 'should light up as winter approaches'

Date: 6/9/2010
Cyclists need to wear reflective clothing as the evenings begin to get darker, according to one individual.Nina Morgan, a road safety campaigner, told the Express and Echo she fears people riding bikes in dark attire will cause accidents.
She said now is the prime time to warn people about the issue so they have long enough to buy a reflective band or tabard before the winter months set in.
Miss Morgan recently held a road safety stall at a local fair and noted cyclists that are difficult to see were "by far the main cause of concern" raised by people she spoke to.
"They can be like a dark shadow that suddenly appears from nowhere," she commented, adding it does not take much effort to wear a reflective piece of gear.
Emma Barlow, a Police Community Support Officer, recently remarked riding a bike can be very dangerous if done so without the correct safety equipment, such as a helmet and visibility jacket, The News reported.
