Date: 13/6/2011
Despite more people now using the Tube to get around the UK capital than ever before, delays on the network have declined by one-third in eight years.According to Transport for London, at the same time independent polls have discovered that passenger satisfaction with the services is increasing.
Figures presented to the London Assembly's Transport Committee have revealed that record numbers of travellers are now using the Underground - with 1.1 billion journeys recorded last year.
Meanwhile, there has also been a 12 per cent improvement in the reliability of scheduled services on the network, with the number of kilometres of track operated remaining near their highest ever level.
London Underground's Managing Director Mike Brown said: "The Tube has an underlying long-term trend of improving performance, which has been achieved despite the need to close parts of the network more frequently at weekends for upgrade work."
In the last five years, customer satisfaction among those using the Tube has risen from 76 to 79 points.
Meanwhile, lost customer hours have decreased by 26 per cent since 2003-04.
