Demand for domestic car charging points 'is growing'

Demand for domestic car charging points 'is growing'

Date: 23/9/2011

Interest in domestic vehicle charging points has been steadily developing in the UK.

Such is the opinion of Philip Hill, General Manager of Rolec Services, although he adds that until more of the major manufacturers release their own electric cars, demand in this area will be gradual.

"When Vauxhall bring out the Ampera and Ford bring out the Focus there's going to be more interest - that's when you're going to see a ramp up [in attention]," he notes.

Mr Hill says that people who do invest in an electric car will most likely want to charge it overnight near their property, leading him to identify the outdoor one charge 13 amp socket as the main market.

Because most individuals are likely to prefer to refuel their vehicle over a prolonged period of time during the night, the commentator claims that costly units designed to recharge the battery quickly may not be as popular.

During EcoVelocity - which ran over the weekend of September 9th at Battersea Power Station - the capital's electric charging network scheme Source London recorded a threefold rise in its membership numbers.

The initiative allows people to charge their vehicle at any of its citywide power points.
