DfT receives 14 bids for new stations fund

Date: 13/3/2013
A total of 14 bids have been made for financial grants that are available under the Government's new stations fund, the (Dft) Department for Transport has confirmed. The scheme, which launched in January, is designed to support what the DfT calls 'shovel ready' initiatives, with funding set to be allocated to projects that can be delivered quickly in order to provide definitive benefits to both passengers and the economy.
Among the bids are plans for a parkway rail station near Worcester, a station at Kenilworth and a scheme in Low Moor, Bradford.
With a cross-industry panel set to assess the applications to determine the winners of the funding, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin praised the appetite for improving rail links throughout the country.
"I welcome the interest we have seen in the stations fund, this shows the government was right to introduce this brand new scheme," he said.
"This represents just a small part of the multi-billion pound package of improvements for our railways, providing real benefits for passengers and industry."
