Dial-a-Ride services in Kingston upgraded

Date: 9/7/2010
Transport for London's Dial-a-Ride service has joined forces with Richmond and Kingston Accessible Transport (Rakat) to help vulnerable residents with their shopping.General Manager of Dial-a-Ride Paul Blackwell said the new partnership means more elderly and disabled people who may be living in isolation will now have the chance to get out and about once a week.
"Once they build their confidence in using us, we hope that the new members identified with the help of Rakat will go on to use Dial-a-Ride for other local journeys, such as visiting family and friends," he added.
Disabled or elderly people who struggle with the Tube, buses or trains can use the service and at the moment there are more than 600 members who take advantage of the scheme.
Last month, the Thames Valley Partnership revealed more drivers caught speeding in the vicinity opted to go on speed awareness courses rather than receive points and a fine.
