Digital London bus information service 'a success'

Digital London bus information service 'a success'

Date: 7/12/2011

Many people travelling on London's bus network have been accessing live transport information using their smartphones.

Transport for London (TfL) has been publishing updates - such as bus arrival times and destinations - on its website, which commuters can use to monitor the service on their particular route.

This has been accessed by 750,000 people since it was launched last month and the organisation also receives over 10,000 texts requesting bus arrival information every day.

Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor's Director of Digital London, described the solution as "brilliant."

He added it is a "fantastic example of how digital innovation can contribute to more effective public services."

It is thought the solution will be particularly useful when the Olympic Games comes to the capital next year, as it will help visitors make their way around the city.

At the end of last month, TfL revealed there has been an increase in the number of people using the London Overground service, as it now carries two million passengers every week.
