Date: 15/3/2010
The government has announced it is to invest £20 million in transport links in Dorset and Somerset.A total of £14 million has been earmarked to build a new bridge over the Back Water Channel.
It is hoped the new structure will improve transport links between Poole and Hamworthy.
New link roads will also be built.
In addition, some £5.5 million has been set aside to improve road access to Taunton town centre and regeneration areas.
It is hoped the transport improvements will support jobs and boost the economy.
Transport minister Sadiq Khan commented: "A second road bridge across the Back Water Channel will greatly improve access between Poole and Hamworthy. And the new road links are essential to the major development site close to Poole town centre which has been earmarked for 2,000 new homes and is expected to create 4,600 full time jobs."
Earlier this month, the government department stated £363.6 million of funding would be put towards a major upgrade of roads on the Isle of Wight.
