Drink-drive initiative launched by police in Hull

Drink-drive initiative launched by police in Hull

Date: 2/6/2010

Police in Hull have launched a campaign to crack down on football fans who may get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol during the Fifa World Cup.

According to the Hull Daily Mail, officers will wait outside bars and pubs that show matches to catch those suspected of trying to drive while drunk.

Police Constable Keith Ward said they want members of the public to think about the repercussions of drink-driving.

He remarked: "We don't want to ruin anyone's fun, but we are happy to so if it means pedestrians and other road users are safer."

Constable Ward added if Britons are preparing a day out to watch the tournament and are then planning to drive home, they should stick to soft drinks.

Meanwhile, Surrey Police have unveiled their drink-driving campaign and Inspector Chris Colley noted they will test anyone involved in a collision if they suspect alcohol or drugs are to blame.

Every month on Surrey's roads four individuals are injured or killed because of motorists who have driven while under the influence.
