Drink driving safety advice issued to motorists

Date: 6/12/2011
Safety advice has been issued to motorists attending Christmas parties over the festive season.IAM Drive & Survive explained the drinks poured at celebrations can often contain more alcohol than those served in a pub, so individuals should not attempt to calculate if they are over the limit.
If they have driven to a gathering, the organisation advised people to take a taxi home or ask a friend or family member to come and pick them up.
Motorists should also be aware that they may still be over the limit the next day and must take this into consideration when making any travel plans.
Head of Training at IAM Drive & Survive Simon Elstow said: "Drinking and driving has serious consequences. It is not only about your safety, but other road users. It is not worth the risk."
If motorists are caught on the road with too much alcohol in their system they can be banned from driving, face a fine of several thousand pounds and could even receive a prison sentence.
