Date: 14/9/2010
Road users should plan their journeys in advance due to predicted increased volumes of traffic during the Pope's visit to Britain later this week, the Highways Agency has stated. The authority warned there may be congestion on the M6 on September 16th as a result of the Pope's stay in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Additionally, heavy traffic is expected on approaches to the M25 from September 17th-18th due to his visit to London, while roads heading into Birmingham are predicted to be busy on September 19th because of a mass being held in the city.
Jenny Moten, Planning Manager at the Highways Agency, said: "Because of the level of traffic expected, all road users should take particular care to plan their journeys and check traffic conditions before traveling."
Furthermore, Transport for London advised those wishing to see the Pope to arrange their routes well in advance and check its website for updates on engineering works and service changes.
