Drivers 'compromising safety' with missing brake lights

Date: 28/2/2012
Millions of drivers could be compromising their safety because the brake lights are missing on their vehicle. This is according to new research from Tesco Cars, which found 11 per cent of motors are without one or more of these lights.
Furthermore, 3.7 million of the 34 million vehicles on the UK's roads would fail an MOT test because their brake lights are not functioning properly.
Marketing Manager for Tesco Cars Rebecca Ryan described the figures as "alarming".
"We urge solo-commuter drivers to regularly check their lights are clean and functional, perhaps with the help of a colleague or family member," she stated, adding commercial vehicles have no excuse not to have fully-functional lights.
It was discovered that three per cent of motors have at least one headlight that does not work properly.
Window stickers are also leading to safety risks among drivers, a spokeswoman for insurance provider Admiral Group recently stated, explaining they can obscure a driver's view.
