Drivers 'need to be aware of vulnerable road users'

Date: 28/10/2010
Britons need to take extra care on the roads due to the additional hazards the turning back of the clocks will bring on Sunday (October 31st).The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has urged drivers and motorcyclists to look out for vulnerable road users in the dark, as well as watch their speed.
It also encouraged cyclists to make sure they have lights fitted and wear reflective clothing at night, while pedestrians need to be aware they are very hard to see if dressed in dark attire.
Furthermore, the organisation asked parents to speak to their children about the importance of being seen when it is dark.
Kevin Clinton, Head of Road Safety at the RoSPA, said: "Being visible and looking out for other people might sound simple, but not doing these things costs lives on our roads each year."
The Department for Transport has also launched a campaign urging youngsters to be bright and be seen when out in the dark.
