Drivers 'should keep an eye on road conditions for new year'

Drivers 'should keep an eye on road conditions for new year'

Date: 29/12/2010

If they have to travel to reach parties and events for New Year's Eve, Britons should first ensure they check the road conditions for their journey, it has been urged.

Fleet tracking expert Tracker is advising drivers to find out about both the traffic and road conditions they are likely to experience on their route when they plan how they will reach their destination.

It adds that planning a journey is important as people do not want to be forced to see in 2011 while stuck in their car.

Stephen Doran, Managing Director of Tracker, said: "It's also worth remembering that the first days after the Christmas break are the busiest on the roads, as everyone gets back to work."

The service's advice is supported by breakdown recovery firm Green Flag, which reminds people that if a vehicle has been idle over Christmas, it may not start up when drivers need it in the new year.

Earlier in the month, Green Flag urged motorists to check the weather conditions for their journey to find out if any part of it would be affected by snow.
