Drivers urged to check insurance policy closely

Date: 10/8/2011
Inspecting motor insurance documents thoroughly can help drivers identify any exclusions they may be subject to.Moneysupermarket.com recently analysed a sample of comprehensive car cover policies and found that the cost and the details of each varied substantially.
Although the term 'comprehensive' could persuade drivers that they are covered for every eventuality, the price comparison site notes that this is not always the case and that points like legal fees or vehicle hire may not be included.
Peter Harrison, the site's Car Insurance Expert, says: "Anyone on the hunt for a new car insurance policy should look in detail at what is offered from the various policy types available; comprehensive, third party and third party, fire and theft all offer differing levels of protection as you'd expect."
Meanwhile, recent research by confused.com revealed that in the last year, the amount it costs for new drivers to insure some car models has doubled.
In 2010, the cheapest premium available for an owner of a Ford Ka hatchback who had recently passed their driving test cost less than £900, but in 2011 this has risen to more than £1,900.
