DSA trials new practical driving tests

Date: 28/3/2012
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is currently trialling a new approach to practical tests in the UK.Instead of running all driving examinations from test centres, some could begin at hotels, leisure centres or local authority buildings.
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning explained the initiative is currently being trialled in eight locations and the Department for Transport wants to extend the idea to five more.
These are Watford, Manchester, Kettering, Glasgow and Worcester.
"We have to be more flexible and innovative in delivering driving tests to make sure that we are offering people the best service possible wherever they live," Mr Penning stated.
The DSA is considering the idea of working with private businesses, which will offer their premises as places from which to deliver practical driving tests.
Improvements are also being made to services in Bury, as the town's test centre is set to re-open on March 30th after it was damaged by a burst water pipe in 2010.
