Early opening for London's "crucial" Overground link

Date: 1/3/2011
A "crucial" rail link on the London Overground system has opened three months early.Transport for London (TfL) has announced that the new route will speed up the time passengers are able to journey between the northern part of the capital, the City district, Docklands and the south of London.
Running between the Highbury and Islington station and Dalston Junction, commuters using National Rail or the Underground's Victoria Line will be able to transfer on to the Overground service.
In addition, the link will provide another route that can be used by people journeying to sites in Stratford during the Olympic Games in 2012.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Our engineers have performed marvels to complete their work three months early and it will provide a crucial connection for people heading to the Olympic Park next year."
TfL also announced this week that work is continuing to give the bus station at London Bridge a makeover ahead of its planned opening next May.
