East London bus service scoops national prize

A bus service in the capital has been honoured with a national prize for delivering high-frequency links between Ilford and Dagenham.The East London Transit scooped the Infrastructure Award at the UK Bus Awards 2010 after impressing judges with the way it assists traffic flow and provides an attractive service to passengers.
Kulveer Ranger, Transport Adviser to London Mayor Boris Johnson, said: "We are thrilled with this award, which recognises how the Mayor has delivered on his promise to provide better links between local communities and jobs."
The project shows Mr Johnson's vision for enhancing the look and feel of the capital is starting to take effect, he continued.
David Brown, Managing Director of Surface Transport at Transport for London (TfL), added "innovative ways" of improving the streetscape and bus service were incorporated into the scheme.
Earlier this month, TfL secured funding for three more hydrogen buses to expand its existing fleet of five.
