East Coast Line 'may drop Glasgow'

East Coast Line 'may drop Glasgow'

Date: 9/11/2009

New plans for the East Coast Main Line have omitted Glasgow as a route stop, according to new reports.

The current service, as operated by National Express until the 13th November, originates in London's Kings Cross station and travels to Edinburgh before ending in Glasgow.

Director of Passenger Focus told BBC Scotland that Department for Transport officials were consulting on routes for December 2010 and are hoping to drop the Yorkshire-Glasgow route from the line.

Passenger Focus director James King said the move would generate more
train paths and a more consistent service between London and Edinburgh.

"We're looking for reassurance that another operator [for the
Yorkshire-Glasgow route] can be found," said Mr King.

Department of Transport officials retained that changes to the line
"could only be implemented after public consultation and approval from
the department".
