Easter roadtrippers 'should ensure they're covered'

Date: 21/4/2011
Those making the most of the Easter weekend with a trip away have been warned against heading off without breakdown cover.Green Flag said it is preparing for a record number of breakdown callouts over the Easter break as holidaymakers choose to drive to their getaway destination rather than fork out for flights, which are rising in cost.
The firm noted that due to the increasing cost of flying, tickets to Spain for a family of four would now cost around £1,000 - more than double the cost of driving.
"It is vital that motorists ensure they have breakdown cover in place as the costs of recovery can end up making a holiday on a shoestring a very expensive getaway," said Head of Green Flag Henry Topham.
If driving to Spain, motorists should be aware of any new speed limits and Spanish laws including the legislation which require drivers to have two EU approved warning triangles on board, as well as a high visibility jacket.
Chairman of SURVIVE Allan Mowatt recently advised motorists taking the motorway this weekend to call for help in the event of a breakdown and highlighted the importance of exiting a vehicle from the passenger side.
