Edinburgh opens public consultation on fresh transport strategy

Date: 6/2/2013
Edinburgh Council opened a six-week public consultation on Monday (February 4th), asking residents to share their views on the development of a new transport strategy for the city. The move forms part of attempts to draw up a five-year policy document for 2014 - 2019, with people being encouraged to comment on ten key transport issues that are up for review.
Among the proposals is the potential to introduce parking charges on Sundays, while the possibility of reducing the speed limit in residential streets to 20MPH is also up for discussion.
Councillor Lesley Hinds, Transport Convener, said: "Whether you're a public transport user, a motorist, a cyclist or a pedestrian - or perhaps you might even be all of these things, depending on the journey - we want to hear what residents and businesses in Edinburgh think."
As the Council aims to draw up a strategy that takes into account the priorities of the community, the consultation could have a strong bearing on the direction of future policy.
