Electric vehicle market 'growing rapidly'

Electric vehicle market 'growing rapidly'

Date: 25/8/2010

Sales of Chargemaster's electric vehicle (EV) charging units will grow rapidly next year, the products manufacturer has predicted.

David Martell, Executive Chairman of the company, told GreenWise 2,000 units are expected to be sold in 2011, an eightfold increase on the 250 he forecasts will be bought by the end of this year.

"We are growing rapidly and we are well capitalised with £1 million invested in the company already," he continued.

Mr Martell stated Chargemaster has secured orders for 150 EV charging units from some eight different customers in the last month.

The EV industry "has seen a surge in new activity", he commented, which is largely due to the government's electric car initiatives and the green vehicles launched by manufacturers such as Nissan and Mitsubishi.

However, the Guardian recently reported just 16 electric cars have been sold in Spain since the beginning of this year, despite significant state subsidies.
