Electric vehicles will be most popular company car, survey says

Date: 17/11/2010
Electric vehicles (EVs) could replace other types of cars in the fleet sector in the near future, new research has suggested. The Sunderland Echo reports a survey conducted for Lex Autolease shows less than five per cent of finance chiefs and company car drivers believe petrol cars will outsell other kinds of fuel in a decade's time.
Furthermore, eight-out-of-ten business drivers and two-thirds of financial bosses stated they are confident EVs will become the most popular choice of company car.
Chris Chandler of the leasing company said: "Diesel has already overtaken petrol as the fuel of choice in the fleet sector, which is renowned for being an early adopter of new vehicle technologies."
He added there is now an expectation that the move away from petrol will gather pace, as hybrid and electric cars "begin to attract greater market share."
However, safety concerns were recently raised about EVs, with the charity Guide Dogs suggesting they will put blind or partially sighted people in danger as they are too quiet to be heard.
