Electric cars a 'savvy choice' for city workers

Electric cars a 'savvy choice' for city workers

Date: 13/10/2009

The recent endorsement of electric cars by the West Midlands Police force has been welcomed by the Trader Media Group.

Mitsubishi says it has been inundated with requests since it displayed its I MiEV vehicle at the National Police Show in September.

Matt Thompson, group marketing director for autotrader.co.uk, said that it makes sense for organisations to consider electric cars.

"Light, small electric cars with zero emissions at the exhaust pipe are an increasingly savvy choice for city commuters, who benefit from reduced or free tax and exemption from congestion charges," he said.

Mr Thompson added that electric vehicles are particularly useful for "organisations whose employees mainly cover short distances".

The aforementioned Mitsubishi vehicle is capable of travelling at a top speed of 81 mph and has a range of 100 miles.

It can carry four passengers and the first full-production versions will be in the UK from next month.
