Emirates Transport moves towards more eco-friendly practices

Date: 21/1/2013

A move has been made by Emirates Transport in order to make its practices and policies more environmentally friendly.

It has signed an (MoU) Memorandum of Understanding with the (DCCE) Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence in order to increase cooperation on matters of federal transport, reports the Emirates News Agency.

The move is designed to bring Emirates Transport in line with the government of the (UAE) United Arab Emirates' sustainable development drive.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Jarman, General Manager of Emirates Transport, and Engineer Waleed Ali Salman, Chairman of the DCCE, signed the MoU.

Mr Al Jarmen said that Emirates Transport would benefit from the expertise on offer from the DCCE and that sustainable business strategies and solutions would result from the collaboration.

He told the news provider: "As a leading transport cooperation of sizable presence, all over the UAE, we acknowledge the opportunities we have towards the improvement of our business practices to make them more environmentally friendly.

"Over the years we have successfully applied many green policies and practices, but we hope to take our efforts to the next step by through signing of this agreement with Dubai Carbon."

Engineer Waleed Ali Salman pointed out that as well as promoting sustainable transport, the signing of the MoU would help to increase the efficiency of energy consumption.

Further to this he said that it was another step towards supporting the Clean Development Mechanism, which is brought about through a partnership with the United Nations and helps to bring new initiatives to fruition.

He added: "Therefore, DCCE seeks to build capacity for performance improvement, knowledge transfer and increased awareness, as well as the promotion of globally accepted best practices. This would promote the culture of creativity and excellence in achieving the UAE's strategic goals for green, sustainable development."

Emirates Transport has more than 11,000 vehicles operated by 12,000 employees, who drive millions of kilometres every year, and therefore believes it has the potential to reduce its carbon footprint through cooperation with other bodies.
